Art & design is not about what you see, but what you make others see.

Kim Schoefs
Kim is inspired by furniture with a story. Culture is learning not to be influenced by fashion! After leaving school, she quickly became self-employed and opened a furniture store in Hasselt called “Simongavina” specialized in timeless and exclusive design collections, “20 fascinating years”.
Currently she’s the interior specialist at ‘Keldermans Wonen’ in Herk de Stad, where she transforms the old gallery, originally a beer brewery, into a new living concept ‘Adventure of living‘. Here we welcome you in a showroom full of art, vintage and design furniture.
Do you think it’s time to change your interior? From color advice to costumisation or looking for that added value in your home? Need inspiration and professional advice?

Relive the magic of De Ster Brewery in Herk-de-Stad: Adventure of Living
Although it has been a while since beer was brewed, the former De Ster brewery still breathes the rich history of the Keldermans family. Located next to the Keldermans Wonen showroom, this unique location has been transformed into a vibrant center of design, art, and creativity.
As an interior specialist with over 30 years of experience in design and art, it is a rewarding task for Kim Schoefs to give this building a new purpose. Part of the brewery is now a showroom where timeless design furniture is combined with a mix of vintage pieces and art from both local and well-known artists.
The location also houses the real estate agency of Kinga Kantorska, known from the TV program "Blind Gekocht." Numerous recordings have been made here, which contributes to the special atmosphere of the showroom.
And there is more! In the future, this location will offer even more surprises with a mix of activities that will only increase its appeal.
We cordially invite you to come and discover all this for yourself during our open days:
- Friday 31/05 and Saturday 1/06 from 10am to 6pm
- Sunday 02/06 from 12pm to 6pm
Come and experience the unique charm and versatility of Brouwerij De Ster. We look forward to welcoming you!

CHRISTEL VALKENEERS
MORE INFOMy name is Christel Valkeneers, born and raised in rural Herk-de-Stad in the late 60s. From a young age I developed a passion for art. Over the years, the time for painting made way for time with my family, my household and my fulltime job.
STEVEN THOELEN
MORE INFOSteven Thoelen (Tongeren-1978) summarizes his own life experiences in an image that invites viewers to think about the meaning of choices and the paths we walk. 'Life is what you make of it,' says Thoelen, and this idea forms the core of his artistic vision.
ITALO BRESSAN
MORE INFOItalo Bressan was born in Vezzano (TN) in 1950. He moved to Milan and attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he has been teaching painting since 1983. In 1992 he became Professor of Painting at the Accademia Albertina in Turin and in 2002 he became Professor of Painting at the Accademia di Brera.
Christel Valkeneers
My name is Christel Valkeneers, born and raised in rural Herk-de-Stad in the late 60s. From a young age I developed a passion for art. Over the years, the time for painting made way for time with my family, my household and my fulltime job.
As a medical representative, I cross the Dutch-speaking part of the country every day. The increasingly busy roads, the longer traffic jams and the race against time often make me long for slowing down and awareness of the moment.
Time is rushing by like crazy and yet I try to stop the clock for a moment, call it: escape from time and the rush of everyday life. And it was here that I rediscovered my passion for painting. My stress level drops as my hands glide over the canvas. The wonderful feeling of letting everything happen in the flow of the moment. I try to bring back this relaxation in my works: calm colours, soft movements and abstract shapes.
In addition, my heart leaps for joy when I can let people enjoy my moment of escape and relaxation, and the creation that results from it.
STEVEN THOELEN
Steven Thoelen (Tongeren-1978) summarizes his own life experiences in an image that invites viewers to think about the meaning of choices and the paths we walk. 'Life is what you make of it,' says Thoelen, and this idea forms the core of his artistic vision.
It is remarkable that his internationally award-winning works are captured in a single take, with every actor present in the scene actually present in the meticulously crafted set, which Thoelen personally designed and spent months building. From casting to direction, from set construction to decoration, every aspect of the scene is carefully crafted by Thoelen's hand.
Through his fine art photography, Thoelen has captured moments in his own life that have brought him closer to his true self. His work is not only a reflection of his technical prowess, but also of his personal journey of self-discovery and growth. “I believe that the path we walk can only be created by ourselves,” says Thoelen. “Every choice we make, every experience we have, contributes to the unique journey that shapes our lives.” His art serves as a reminder that life is an adventure, full of opportunities for self-expression and personal growth. It reflects the depth of the human experience, the ability to capture and convey emotions, stories, and the complexity of human experiences. It is about his ability to forge a deep, meaningful connection with the viewer, allowing them to see themselves and the world around them in a new way.
Be grateful, and celebrate life!
ITALO BRESSAN
Italo Bressan was born in Vezzano (TN) in 1950. He moved to Milan and attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he has been teaching painting since 1983. In 1992 he became Professor of Painting at the Accademia Albertina in Turin and in 2002 he became Professor of Painting at the Accademia di Brera.
For several decades, Italo Bressan's research has revolved around a reflection on the fundamental elements of painting: form and colour. His attention to these components is seen as expressive and at the same time fluid energy, where the plastic power of the chromatic element defines a new dynamic space, in which form materialises through colour.
The soul of his research is the deep sense of a chromatic intensity that Bressan experiences with spontaneity and absolute control.
In his paintings, absence and presence coexist, density and lightness. What is central to the artist's field of interest is the deep sense of clarity as a place of revelation of every color and its infinite nuances.
It is in every respect a painting of light, which, though ethereal and floating, is capable of producing chromatic variations of great intensity.
The pictorial space is the center of energy and tension, of reflection and impulse, of confrontation with the outside world and introspection. The romantic temperament of the artist manifests itself in the sublime aspect of the surfaces where the gesture generates emotional impulses that suggest the movement of the brushstrokes in space, while the overlapping of color creates an incredible feeling of transparency and suspension.
After a work dedicated to chromatic vibrations, he moves his story of light and shadow, of colour chords and contrasts, of emblematic gestures to a research based on the structure and distribution of the formal system: solid architecture with apparently non-existent contours emphasises the change of support obtained by joining canvases, panels or glass, sometimes covered with simple bites, sometimes covered with paper veils, which make the relationship of the work even more articulated in the space where shadows take on an ambiguous role in the identity of the painting.
His most recent production focuses on the concept of shadow in works that take the form of a page on which his gesture corresponds to a temporary scan, leaving a mark whose nature retains the pressure of the engraving and the sequence of the writing.
In this last cycle of works, whose initial stimulus comes from the observation of stone inscriptions, he recovers the original element of the minimal, primal sign, where the shadow comes from the attempt to erase the signs themselves, arranged according to a specific rhythm on the painting surface.
What intrigues him and what underlies the last cycle of works is the concept of memory, which for Bressan is identified in the “spirit of the times” and in an “existential time”; two concepts that allow him to reflect on the idea of “new” reality borrowed in this last research.
The aspect he meditates on is the choice of an organic and primary material such as charcoal, which by releasing dust creates shadows, therefore fleeting traces, evidence of the passage of time. Of course, all this happens through a freedom of expression that is never separated from a strong mental tension. He lives and works between Milan and Trento.
